SOLACE was set up by a group of sisters who were concerned about the difficulties that revert sisters often face. Whilst there are many organisations within the United Kingdom who cater for the educational and Islamic needs of new revert sisters, we felt there lacked an organisation whose aim was relieving the difficulties of revert sisters regardless of whether they have been a Muslim for a few weeks or many years.
The Campaign Against Criminalising Communities (CAMPACC) was formed in March 2001 in response the banning of 21 organisations under powers of the Terrorism Act 2000. The Campaign brings together human rights activists, lawyers, journalists, and communities which find themselves targeted by so-called 'anti-terrorism' legislation. CAMPACC organises public meetings, petitions, Parliamentary lobbies, submissions to Parliamentary bodies, as well as protests at court hearings and prisons.
To campaign against the use of excessive state powers to criminalise political activity which are contained within the Terrorism act 2000, the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001, the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005, the Terrorism Act 2006 and the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008; to campaign for the repeal of these acts; to campaign against any other legislation that has a similar effect; to monitor the use of such legislation and to work in close association with the communities most affected by these acts in order to highlight their discriminatory nature.
