Start the Small but Regular to Sustain HHUGS

£5,001 raised of £70,000 target

Whilst our beloved guest of Ramadhan has sadly departed, it doesn’t have to mean saying goodbye to the good habits we formed in the blessed month.

The Sahaba (ra) were more concerned about the acceptance of their deeds, than the deed itself. Indeed, the sign that our worship in Ramadhan has been accepted is to remain steadfast in performing those deeds after the month has ended.

The nation’s most ostracised and forgotten families whom HHUGS support have been left even more vulnerable at this testing time of the pandemic. Women and children scarred by the cumulative trauma of raids and detention are now grappling with debilitating anxiety and the uncertainty that the virus has brought. Without HHUGS, families would be unable to pay their rent, struggle to feed and clothe their children and spiral deeper into debt.

"I pray to Allah that everyone at HHUGS and everyone that is donating enters Jannah without reckoning. Only earlier I was saying to someone, 'I spent my last £15 today. Two-thirds of my children are with me during the lock down and they are fasting, what will I do the next few days?' The person said, 'Don’t worry, Allah provides,' and I just put the phone down and received your message with the vouchers. Subhan Allah.”

But to continue our services, our families need your ongoing support. The full impact of the virus on small charities like HHUGS, reliant upon face to face community fundraising, has been devastating. With no collections or events this Ramadhan and considerable uncertainty about when we will be able to resume these activities, the mere existence of our operations is threatened.

To sustain our families we need 2000 donors to give just £1.17 a day. That’s less than your daily coffee. Just £35 a month to ensure we can deliver the practical, financial and emotional support they require long term.

We know this is a difficult and uncertain time for everyone in the community. We are living in truly extraordinary times. Such times demand extraordinary effort and sacrifice on our part. Our mosques may still be closed, the opportunities to serve and for sadaqah remain open.

As we continue to fear the loss of our loved ones, by preferring our neighbours in need, we can repel the harm from those dearest to us.

“Sadaqah repels all illness and calamities” (al-Bayhaqi)

As we’re surrounded by constant reminders of the fragility of our lives, seize the opportunities to give before it’s too late.

“Give out of what We have provided for you, before death comes to one of you and he says, ‘My Lord, if You would only reprieve me for a little while, I would give in charity and become one of the righteous.’” (63:10)
