TaqabalAllahu minna wa minkum! On behalf of all the beneficiaries we support, the trustees, staff and volunteers at HHUGS, we wish you and your loved ones a joyous Eid!  We pray that the day brings smiles to your faces, and warmth to your hearts.  May Allah accept your sacrifice, fasting, sadaqah and ‘ibadah during the blessed ten days of Dhul Hijjah, ameen.

As tears flooded the plains of Arafah, and believers were freed from the fire, we pray that we are all amongst them. With such a hope from a merciful Lord, Eid couldn’t be a more joyous occasion.

Wherever you are in the world, as Arafah was for you, so is Eid; a day of hope, gifted to you by your Lord, a day of celebration.

The generosity of our supporters is unceasing, despite the difficult times we are living in. Although there were more frugal choices, 125 of you still chose to raise the bar and perform your Qurbani with HHUGS; providing over 2050kg of mutton in total, which was distributed amongst more than 745 people – 491 adults and 255 children in 144 HHUGS’ families this Eid and beyond; a rare treat for many.

“With the rise of cost of living, buying meat is a luxury for most families. Alhamdulillah with the help of HHUGS and the monthly vouchers, we haven’t had to struggle too much. We are both eternally grateful. May Allah reward you all, ameen.”

For many, it was their first time they’ve received Qurbani.

“This will be the first time we’ve requested Qurbani due to the high cost of living and struggling to make ends meet. We are very grateful to HHUGS and all the people donating. May Allah reward them all immensely, ameen.”

By gifting your Qurbani to single mothers in HHUGS households, you provided them with meals for their families for the year ahead. They no longer have to spend the day, worrying about how they will provide dinner for her children.  But our mothers are not only the recipients of such joy; thanks to your generosity, children in HHUGS households continue to receive presents, from strangers whom didn’t forget them. What may seem like a little gesture to others, means the world to them.

“The Qurbani and Eid gifts from HHUGS are the highlight for our Eid. May Allah bless every single person who contributes and distributes these gifts and Qurbani, bringing smiles to our faces. HHUGS are a constant reminder to us that we are not alone in our trials.”

You inspired joy in days of lack and loss, and quenched their thirst for connection and community, in a wilderness of loneliness.

“We are eternally grateful for all HHUGS support. The first Eid gifts we received came at a particularly difficult time. Subhan Allah, it lifted our spirits and reminded us of the beautiful sense of community HHUGS has created. We have been looking forward to it every year. JazaakAllahu khaira to all the HHUGS team.”

You help to fill the absence of their loved ones.

“It brings us some comfort and relief. Missing our husband and father as this is what he would provide for us. It fills that hole slightly and also brings him relief to know we are being taken care of.”

For some families, you were the embodiment of the hadith, of those envied on the Day of Judgement for their status.

“When I receive such gifts it reminds me of the hadith: “Among Allāh’s servants there are some who are neither prophets nor martyrs but on the Day of Judgement the prophets and the martyrs will envy their grades… those are the people who love one another for Allāh’s sake. They are neither related to one another nor do they have any property to exchange. I swear on Allāh that they will have faces of light, they will be on pulpits of light. They will not have any fear when others will be afraid, they will not have any grief when others will be aggrieved.’” May Allah make you amongst them, ameen. A small gift but the ripple effect on my heart due to the above hadith, suffices the need for a family that is blood related.”

With Yawm al-Nahr, the greatest day of the 10 days, today, there is still time to reap the rewards and share in such a lofty status. Embody the true spirit of Eid, increasing in obedience and gratitude, and make it an Eid for them to remember.

We pray that the best ten days were a means of rejuvenation and redemption for you, a means of freeing you from the Fire, and forgiveness. Even if you were not on the plains of Arafah, or could not physically slaughter in Mina, we pray it you receive its virtue and blessings tenfold.
