During Move Month, we’re sharing ways and tips of how you can increase your movement and its benefits. But today, we’re sharing the ultimate reason to move, and that’s for the sake of Allah. You’ll be reaping the benefits both for your body and for the akhirah.

HHUGS were privileged enough to have a group of brothers fundraise this summer and reach the incredible collective target of £17,310. They did it simply by climbing Mount Snowdon during the sacred days of Dhul Hijjah. They were all part of a community group called the Akhirah Project, and had pledged to raise £10,000 at the HHUGS dinner in March 2023.

Although their trek didn’t take part during Move Month, we can still gain inspiration during this September, and embody their courage and drive to make a change.

The purpose of the group is in its name – brothers who got together to take part in activities and fundraise for worthy causes, all for the reward in the hereafter.

Wajid, one of the brothers involved, talks more about its birth.  “The group came together from an idea about leaving a legacy behind. Initially it was two brothers who thought about the idea, and knew others would want to get involved when its regarding investing in their akhirah.”

Even though Wajid and other brothers who took part are invested in making a difference to others, both locally and nationally, we asked why they agreed to fundraise for HHUGS specifically.

“The team have always supported HHUGS so it was an easy choice. We pledged to raise 10k.

“It’s a unique organisation, no one else does the work they do. They work with people who are often looked down upon by our community.

“HHUGS are a charity that are close to our hearts. They help the most needy and distressed families, locally and nationally. The wider community needs to know what HHUGS is about.”

The pledge was made at the HHUGS dinner, but the real work began when it was time to fundraise.  Aziz talks about his experience taking part, and any reservations he may have had that dispersed over time.

“We had other reservations, yet we still pledged with a clean heart knowing Allah Almighty will take care of it and He provides.

We had initially wanted to raise the funds in Ramadhan but we had other campaigns going on, so we decided to do the Snowdon trek in the blessed month of Dhul Hijjah.

“The trek was to be set on the day of Arafah, then we decided not to, as (any of) the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah was significantly rewarding.”

There were around fifteen brothers who joined, and although they never imagined they would exceed their target, but to their surprise, they did.

“We never expected to exceed the target, it all happened by the Qadr of Allah SWT.

“We very happy with it. If you have intentions that are clean and the effort is there, Allah (swt) takes care of it.”

It’s a great lesson for us to learn. That although we may be wary of taking on a pledge, no matter how big or small – or even to take on board a physical challenge – having firm Tawwakkul in Allah can never fail you.

The Akhirah Project did not only fulfil their pledge but went above and beyond their target. They share a few words on why they would encourage others to take part.

“It’s worth the effort to raise awareness and to offer new perspectives.”

We’re not asking you to move mountains to get involved. We’re simply encouraging you to join our next event – our Sisters Archery Challenge taking place on 30th September. It’s your chance to get moving and raise funds for a worthy cause; it seems like a win-win to me.
